Burgtec Bartender Pro Josh Bryceland Signature Grip

Josh ‘Ratboy’ Bryceland gave Burgtec a simple brief: make a lock-on grip that feels like a push-on. Two things. That’s it.

Engineering brains and bro science split the atom to create the Burgtec Bartender Pro — the Josh Bryceland Signature grip that delivers all the push-on feels with the rock-solid dependability of a traditional lock-on. The result is one of the most genuinely innovative grip designs in MTB — and one of the most comfortable, regardless of conditions, gloves, or riding style.

Rat’s style is loose and flowy, but he needed a dependable grip he could fit and forget. The Bartender Pro is exactly that — a grip that inspires confidence on the biggest hucks, the rowdiest lines, and the longest descents without sore hands getting in the way of the session.

The Hybrid Core — What Makes It Different

Standard lock-on grips have a plastic core running the full length of the grip — and that core is the problem. Where the rubber meets the plastic, the grip loses the softness and flex that gives push-on grips their famous feel. Remove the core and you get push-on softness — but then you need wire, glue, and the constant worry of throttle grip rotation.

Burgtec’s solution — the tapered hybrid core — keeps the lock-on security while surgically removing the plastic exactly where it matters:

The palm window: A huge tapered cut-away window sits on top of the grip, directly under your three outer knuckles — the area where harshness is felt most acutely during heavy landings and rough terrain. Removing the core here puts rubber all the way to the bar, creating the flex and damping of a push-on grip at the most critical contact point.

The pinky window: A smaller additional cut-away under the grip for the ring and little finger — the area where extra purchase and pop come from when you’re pulling the bar for a jump or muscling through a technical section. This smaller window delivers the all-over push-on feel that makes the Bartender Pro so immediately distinctive.

The result: Close your eyes, grab a handful, and you’d swear blind it’s push on.

The Pattern — Horizontal Lines and Alternate Finger Grip

After extensive testing, Josh and Burgtec kept coming back to horizontal lines. The horizontal line pattern gives an extra supple, pillowy feel under the palm — soft and consistent across the full contact area for all-day comfort without the localized pressure points of more aggressive tread patterns.

Underneath the grip — the area where extra pop comes from — is an alternate half-height pattern. This small but critical section increases purchase and leverage for popping jumps, pulling the bar through manuals, or unlocking something in your local woods. It’s there when you need it, invisible when you don’t.
