Fetch at the lake shouldn’t mean losing the toy — or your patience. The Ruffwear Lunker Toy is a soft, stuffed fabric toy designed for dogs who love to chase, retrieve, and tug, whether they’re playing on the trail, in the backyard, or out in open water.

A kernmantle rope handle runs through the toy, making it easy to pick up, swing, and launch for long-distance throws. That same handle gives you a dry, slobber-free grip after your dog brings it back for another round, and it doubles as a built-in tug point for interactive play. Inside, a recycled foam core keeps the Lunker floating high on the surface so it’s easy to spot and retrieve in water, while the abrasion-resistant 900-denier polyester shell holds up to repeated fetch sessions.

Ruffwear partners with PLUSfoam Compound Technologies to produce the Lunker’s foam core, and the entire toy is recyclable through that same program once it’s reached the end of its life. Like all Ruffwear toys, the Lunker is designed for interactive, supervised play rather than solo chewing — it’s built to be thrown, tugged, and retrieved together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Ruffwear Lunker float? Yes. Its recycled foam core lets it float high on the surface of water, making it easy to spot and retrieve during fetch games in lakes, rivers, or pools.

What size dog is the Lunker suited for? The Lunker comes in one versatile size (2.5 x 12 in / 6 x 31 cm) and works well for a wide range of dog sizes that enjoy fetch and tug play.

Is the Lunker safe to leave with my dog unsupervised? No. Like other Ruffwear toys, the Lunker is designed for interactive, supervised play. If any part becomes loose or detached, remove and discard the toy.

Can the toy be used for tug as well as fetch? Yes. The kernmantle rope handle works as a throw handle and as a tug point, so it supports both styles of play.

Is the Lunker eco-friendly? Its foam core is produced through Ruffwear’s partnership with PLUSfoam Compound Technologies, and the toy can be sent back to PLUSfoam for recycling at the end of its life.
